2022 has been huge for Nicholson Consulting. With the year drawing to a close, join us as we reflect on moments that made our 2022 awesome.
Bernadette Scanlon joined the Nicholson Consulting team as CEO
We started the year with a bang and welcomed Bernie to the Nicholson Consulting whānau. Bernie provided insightful and inspiring answers to a Q+A she completed back in February; however, Bernie wasn’t the only new face around our office in 2022…
We welcomed new staff to the team
We’ve been lucky to have several awesome people start with us this year. Asia joined our team as a full time Data Scientist after spending the summer of 2021 at NC as an intern. Jontelle joined us soon after as Project Manager, and was soon followed by Shanara, our Pou Whanake. Sally and Nisha joined us recently in November as a Senior Analyst and Data Science Intern respectively. OHI Data Navigator was recognised with not one - but two awards!
In May the OHI Data Navigator was announced as the winner of the Public Health & Social Services category at the IDC Smart Asia Pacific Awards. OHI also won the People’s Choice Award at the Open Source Awards.

This Stuff article released in July covers the successes of Wāhine Māori owned businesses in Aotearoa drew on key findings from Te Matapaeroa. We also contributed to the research paper - “Criminal justice system interactions among young adults with and without autism: A national birth cohort study in New Zealand” - which featured in this Stuff article
As Covid restrictions eased, a number of our kaimahi attended and presented at a variety of events.
From geography, Pacific data sovereignty, and Māori artificial intelligence – our team both shared and received valuable insights at events covering a broad range of subjects. Highlights included:

Our top LinkedIn post this year with 101 likes was our celebration of the release of the Te Matapaeroa report. Also making waves was our star baker Todd - our post featuring his delicious scones drew in over 50 likes!
Te ao Māori was a huge focus across year
As mentioned above, Shanara joined our team as our awesome Pou Whanake and began teaching in house te reo Māori lessons. In June we celebrated Matariki with friends and whānau by heading to Evan’s bay early in the morning to gaze at the skies. We plan to carry on this tradition in the years ahead! In September we kicked off our Mahuru Māori celebrations for 2022. It was an awesome opportunity for our team to get together, sing waiata, share kai, play games and to practice our te reo. Māori. And online we shared a number of te reo Māori resources to aid those at the beginning of the haerenga.
In October our team had the privilege of attending a Te Tiriti training course (run through Kāpuhipuhi Wellington Uni-Professional)
This course was an incredible opportunity to learn about our history, the relationship between Māori and the Crown and relevance of the Treaty to the work we do. The lessons we learned from this course will stay with us and enhance our mahi.
2022 was an incredible year that brought us new faces, meaningful challenges and expanded knowledge.
We’re excited to bring experiences and learnings from this year into 2023 to work on more projects for the good of our communities. Thank you for your continued support.
